This song began six years ago as I was privileged to attend a viewing for a personal friend. It played on a loop in my head as I witnessed the memories she made there and reflected on my memories with her - a life well-lived. Thus it became the basis for the song's theme.

Following the standard pop format, Reflective is structured around its uncanny chord progression i-iib-VI-iv. Close to the end, the final chorus blooms out using almost all instruments; a 2/4 measure breaks into a restatement of the beginning to close the song.
