An epic adventure through the best 5 cenotes located around Valladolid, Mexico.
Including tips for your travel, and what to expect when you are there.
We rented a scooter for the day for about 20 US Dollars, got up early and rode straight to Chichen Itza to be the first in line and beat the queues and tour groups, which I highly recommend as the place gets crowded by 11AM.
Cenote Ik Kil was our first stop, located about 5 minutes away from Chichen Itza. Its a bit crowded and overpriced for what it is, especially as lots of tour groups do it included with the visit to Chichen Itza.
Cenote Samula was our next stop which was beautiful and isolated, we were lucky enough to be on our own in here in the middle of the day. The ticket also included our next stop:
Cenote xkeken, underground, in darkness, completely alone and quiet. We didn't spend long as we had seen enough and wanted a bit more excitement.
Cenote Saamal was somewhere that you could spend the day at with its restaurants and other surrounding activities (zip wires etc). A nice ledge to jump from. Best for last:
Hacienda Cenote Oxman was definitely our favourite stop. We got here last as the sun was setting, but could have easily spent the day here. The cenote itself has a rope swing and a high ledge for jumping, but outside there was also a nice pool to sunbathe etc. The ticket price included a huge discount on the food, and it was delicious!
