This is a video I've been wanting to make for a long, long time. My family has been contacted time and time again by parents struggling with understanding their child's transition. We provide what we can: resources to surgeons, lawyers for name changes, therapists, group counseling, general advice. But there's one thing we can never say enough: It's going to be okay. You will be okay. Your child will be okay. Just, for the love of god, BE THERE for them. I wanted to immortalize that message here. I really hope it can help somebody.
In my humble opinion, there aren't nearly enough resources out there for parents of transgender youth and teens. Being under 18 and being trans is a very different experience from that of transgender adults. The biggest difference is the necessity for parental support. So it's important that the Queer community take a step up and make an attempt to educate and help these parents along their own path, so they can be the best supporters possible.
