THE CHAPAYEV – (SCRATCH) BUILDING THE TAMIYA GAZ-67B BUILD, PART 3, CHASSIS AND INTERIOR
ALL LINKS AT THE END OF THE DESCRIPTION!
Hi, guys! Less than two months to go before moving places. My bench is empty, cleaned up and I won't work on any models before my new hobby room is ready for use. You will have noticed that I'm less present than usual, but it won't take too long before I'll be back to, ahem, „normal“ again. I hope you can understand that my priorities have shifted for the time being.
Finishing this last video before packing up the old notebook took me five weeks. That's four or five times longer than usual and it wasn't easy to concentrate on the video. My first thought was to release it after moving, but there are several new ones I'll have to work on then.
In this episode you'll see that scratch building isn't a linear process. Next to the parts that turned out the way I wanted them there are those that just can't be used. Even with careful planning and very good reference material at hand, things can go wrong. A second, third, fourth... attempt can be necessary to come up with something I like – or at least can live with.
I can't show you final results for rear axle, rear leaf springs and front seats in this video, but I didn't want to hide my failures. I often fail and make many, many mistakes, but making mistakes is important. There's no learning, no improvement without making mistakes. Of course I found solutions I'll show you in the next part, but there are still unsolved problems I'll have to take care of.
As I said, there are parts I finished and I can show now. I built a new rear end, because in my opinion the kit's part was unusable. There were too many issues that I didn't want to waste my time on. It was better to build a new one from scratch. I say „easier“ in the video, but I actually meant to say „better“! Don't worry about the many scratches and residue of glue on many parts. They're just built but not cleaned up yet.
Don't think that I'm a patient guy! I'm not! Not the least bit! I'm just incredibly stubborn and persistent!
