Vector borne diseases are diseases that are transmitted between species by a vector such as mosquito, flea, or ticks. Ticks are especially prevalent in dogs and wildlife. These effects can be life threatening for animal host if left untreated. Human infections are rarely diagnosed but can be something serious, and even fatal. Vector borne diseases are on a rise globally and becoming an issue in a One Health perspective. From that perspective, eliminating the vector in the environment and treating the animal host to prevent disease risk for animals and humans.
Tick fever is one of those diseases that can be serious to fatal in animals and humans.

The Belize Wildlife & Referral clinic (BWRC) is a small, non-profit organization Based in Belize, Central America. Our Vision is
"Wildlife Conservation and Sustainable Development through Collaboration". While Our Mission is "To support wildlife conservation; animal health and welfare; and the veterinary profession in Belize through medical services, education, research, and collaboration." For the past 10 years BWRC has provided free veterinary care to over 4,000 animals. We noticed that most of the wildlife patients are injured due to human interactions. We have since made focus and great effort in public outreach and education. Do do this, we have come up with the Wildlife Ambassador Program to create a public consensus on the importance of safe guarding our wildlife.
