Prairie Junegrass (Koeleria macrantha) peat plug seedlings growing at the greenhouse.
As the largest native tree, and shrub propagator in Canada we also grow a lot of perennials and grasses. Growing from seed in the wild is often not the best or most economic way for long term establishment of many species. Given a site assessment, that was true for this planting location too.
Our army of "tree" planters are trained differently from standard conifer tree planters. They get to see a wider biodiversity of seedlings and a wider range of planting situations. The ones who do this kind of work, often become fiercely passionate about the work they're doing.
