Welcome to Lecce, in the region of Puglia, halfway down the hill of the Italian boot. Come along Lecce's stony baroque streets and squares!
We start at the heart of the city, with the remains of a roman amphitheatre dating back to 200 CE, which had throughout the centuries fallen into oblivion and lay buried underneath the city center until 1902, when it was discovered during construction digging.
Check out the wide variety of tarallini (the Salento area's round shaped crackers), the pasticciotto and le tette delle monache pastries.
