This was one hell of a memorable hour of tenkara fishing! It was early morning on the last day of a four day backpacking trip with my son and some friends. These endless little cascades sit at about 11,000 feet in elevation on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada (the North Fork of Bishop Creek, to be exact). No trees overhead made casting a joy. Beautiful little rainbows (some were golden hybrids) were the target. Truly a slice of tenkara heaven! This is the most fun I've had fishing since beginning my tenkara journey 9 months ago.
I left this video long and largely uncut so the viewer can have the full experience. But if you hate beautiful scenery and walking up waterfalls, here's a cheat sheet to the fish:
0:00 - Intro
9:30 - Fish 1
18:30 - Fish 2
22:45 - Fish 3
26:15 - Fish 4
30:30 - Fish 5, 6, 7 & 8
36:30 - Fish 9
43:45 - Fish 10
51:30 - Fish 11
FACT CHECK: In this video I mention "glacial polish" and site an age of about 40,000 years--roughly when we would have been in the ice age and covered in glaciers. I did some more specific research: studies have shown glacial polish in the sierra to be about 20,000-15,000 years old. So I was off on that one. Here's a cool article about glaciation in Yosemite National Park (the deepest glaciers were 4,000 ft thick, only the tallest peaks poked out the tops, like present day Antarctica!): [ Ссылка ]
