Kerala is God’s own country. With backdrops that embrace gorgeous beaches, backwaters, coconut palm trees, and greenery grasslands. Just like the variety in backdrops, Kerala is also home to a variety of cultures and religions.
In Kerala, people prefer to marry a partner who has the same caste and religion. Inter cast marriage is the usual norm. Still, most of the people like to select a partner from the same caste and religion. Every religion and cast has performed their own wedding customs.
Kerala is a beautiful merger of three kinds of wedding rituals: Kerala Nair weddings, Kerala Syrian Christian wedding, and along with other Indian forms of weddings. It is exciting to notice how each wedding is in some way similar to the other but very diverse too.
The ritual exchange of trays shows the finalization of the wedding in the Nair community, like that, to take permission from church and authorities, shows the finalization in case of Christian weddings. For Hindu weddings, the rituals are conducted either at the bride’s home or in a large auditorium. First, the groom is received by the bride’s brother before they enter mandapam to exchange the vows. As part of the Hindu wedding ritual, they tie Mangalsutra and apply sindoor to the bride. The Syrian Christian community follows this same ritual as part of their wedding.
