I gave birth to a healthy baby in a hospital in March 2021 and this is a summary of the hospital bills we have received so far (after filming I received another for me and another for baby boy so I will do a follow up video in another few months).
In this video I share the cost to give birth with an epidural in a hospital located in Tennessee with health insurance.
Things to note about the birth:
- stayed for 1 night in the hospital, 24 hours total
- had an epidural
- no complications
- health insurance through my employer, I pay $475 per month (40% of the monthly premium and the employer pays the rest)
I've had a baby before and even knowing what some of these birth hospital bills would be didn't stop me from getting upset and frustrated with the INSANE costs of having a baby in the United States.
Wonder why people aren't lining up to have children? This is one of the many reasons why. Even just giving birth to a healthy baby is cost prohibitive for many people. That's not even considering ongoing costs to care for a child. In the USA we have turned healthcare into a business and made it impossible to afford.
I will follow up in a few months about the total cost of giving birth in a hospital in the United States. I am sure the total will cost more than shown here because I've already received $600 worth of additional bills in between filming and uploading this video. INSANE.
