So if you know anything about the common carp in America you should know that carp are an invasive species that were brought over to America from Europe in the 1800s. Since then carp have spread and have been illegally transplanted to countless lakes and rivers. Carp feed off the plants and the eggs of other fish, creating a negative impact on the native species of fish. As well carp create sediment clouds that impede the growth of plants used as nesting grounds for other fish. Because of the negative impact of carp government officials encourage the killing of common carp in many lakes and rivers in order to help the native species of fish have a better chance at surviving. Lake Mead is one of those areas. In the Colorado River (which runs through Lake Mead) the razorback sucker is an endangered species that is currently being threatened by the invasive carp. So when you watch my video, think of it as a form of environmental cleanup and enjoy!

As for eating the carp. Carp are viewed as non gamefish and often called a trash fish for it's poor eating ability on account of its bony meat. And because you rarely see carp for sale anywhere in America most people are reluctant to eat the fish as it is.
