While we do a lot of Facial Feminization procedures at The Spiegel Center, there are definitely three most common: Forehead Contouring (sometimes with Scalp Advancement and Browlift), Lip Lift (sometimes with Augmentation) and Mandible (or jawline) Contouring. These three procedures are done to shape the face to appear more feminine in nature.
1. Forehead Contouring
Forehead contouring & Reduction surgery is one of the most dynamic and advanced forehead surgeries offered by Dr. Spiegel. The technique is very powerful with the ability to truly transform the appearance of the forehead. Masculine foreheads typically have a heavy bony ridge in the area just above the eyes and beneath the eyebrows. This is often referred to as “brow bossing”. Forehead contouring & reduction surgery involves shaping the forehead bones and orbital bones (bones around the eye) to remove the ridge, open up the appearance of the eyes, and create a more naturally feminine, softer appearance
2. Lip Lift
One of our favorite procedures, a lip lift/augmentation offers a way to enhance the shape, size, and beauty of your lips. Dr. Spiegel is recognized as one of the world’s masters of lip lifting and shaping, and *FUN FACT* was also the first surgeon to report the ability to perform a lip lift/augmentation at the same time as a rhinoplasty.
When we think of attractive lips, we envision lips that are full, curved, and shapely. Lip fillers can help in many cases to get you this beautiful result. However, one of the other key features of attractive, feminine, youthful lips is tooth show. Your upper lip should not extend down enough to fully block your upper teeth; seeing upper teeth when your mouth is at rest is a very powerful signal of beauty.
This is where a lip lift/augmentation becomes the perfect solution. A lip lift/augmentation will raise the upper lip to give it a fuller look, and allow for that glimpse of upper teeth.
3. Mandible Contouring
Next to forehead and eye shap and structure, the most significant characteristic of a feminine face is the overall face shape. To a large extent, this is determined by the shape of the jaw. Men often have more square chins and wider, more prominent jaws. Women tend to have a narrower, tapered, and more delicate jaw shape. Having the mandible (lower jaw) contoured can reduce the appearance and size of the jaw, making it rounder, narrower, and more feminine-looking. The procedure involves reshaping the bone around the corners of the jaw and adjusting the shape of the chin to provide a softer, more feminine appearance. In some instances, the procedure may also involve reducing the large masseter muscles to further slim down the area.
