BJP veteran Suresh Khanna, the finance minister is a man for all seasons. He sits next to the chief minister Yogi Adityanath in the U.P. assembly, headed the BJP’s manifesto committee and now, as FM, is tasked with allocating funds to meet the promises party made to the people ahead of the 2022 U.P. elections, in which he himself recorded a ninth consecutive win from Shahjahanpur. He first won in 1989 and hasn’t changed his constituency since! This despite the caste profile not being in his favour. “I worship my people,” is all that he offers when asked about the secret of his wins that came even when the political winds were not favourable to the BJP. U.P.’s finance minister says the state’s financial health is robust. So is his. He says he remembers running fever only thrice in his life!
