Welcome to Woodshed Wednesday Season 1!

Woodshed Wednesday is a series of short, 1 minute drum lessons that focus on practical things that can be quickly applied to the kit so you can head back to your drum kit and spend your time practicing. Whether you've been drumming for a long time and are looking for some new inspiration, or if you're new to the drum kit and are looking for a place to get started, this video series will help you! It's time to get back into the woodshed and start working on your drumming!

In this video we start a new series on one of my absolute favorite topics in drumming, Ghost Notes. These are the unaccented notes we throw in between the main accents (normally on the snare drum) to add some flavor to our grooves. I love ghost notes because they force you to start being intentional about the sounds you're getting from your drums. Obviously this has a huge impact on your overall sound and playing in general. Today we go over a cool ghost note pattern where you're keeping continuous 16th notes going in the style of some Clyde Stubblefield grooves. This one will definitely whip your left hand into shape if you are intentional about the tone you're getting out of your snare.
