East Caicos is the second largest uninhabited island in the Caribbean. Having been previously colonised and abandoned it is far from pristine but offers amazing "ridge to reef" ecosystems, access to the third largest barrier reef on earth, birdwatching, hiking, caving and local cultural heritage from Lucayan cave art to bush medicene still in use today.
Our Darwin-funded project aims to raise awareness of the value of East Caicos for preserving the cultural and natural heritage of the Turks and Caicos Islands and its potential for future sustainable economic prosperity and inspirational learning opportunities for young islanders.
