The United Nations this afternoon confirmed receipt of South Africa's request to withdraw from the International Criminal Court. The ICC itself is yet to respond. South Africa's withdrawal from withdraw from the court in The Hague could take effect one year from October the 19th. Justice Minister Michael Masutha says the decision follows two court rulings that found South Africa should have arrested Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir when he attended an African Union summit in Johannesburg in 2015. The ICC issued a warrant of arrest for Al-Bashir in 2009 on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity
