This etude looks like it might be over the changes to Autumn Leaves, but it's actually Fly Me to the Moon. It has a very similar circle of 5ths motion, but one of the giveaways is this one doesn't cadence to E minor in bar 7. Make sure you have the updated version of this etude that has bar 17 as A minor 7, not A7. Work out the rhythms in bars 11-12 before you start practicing this etude, as the placement of the quarter note triplets on beat 2 isn't very common, and will most likely not lay easily on the first couple of reads. My recommendation is to walk bars 17-24, you'll get a chance to solo on etudes 2 and 3 as well as the improv etude, so show your time and taste with a nice walking line here. After all, if you make the all-state jazz band, 96% of what you play in there will be bass lines, not soloing! Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions about it!
