Hi Everybody,
I would like to introduce you an emblematic berbere music instrument called Ribab,
It is very used in South Morocco (Souss Region) since very long time by the "rwayss" corresponding to the traditional amazigh singers in South Morocco.
I can talk about Raiss Ahmed Amentag, Mohamed Demsiri, Raiss Hadj Belaid, Omar Wahrouch, Boubakr Anchad..
The list is not exhaustive, feel free to investigate,
Ribab could be compared to Violon but keep in mind that you have only one string that makes it very difficult to learn..
For information, this instrument could be seen in Sahel in the touareg tribes where it is called "ImZad". Ali Farka Toure was one of the amazing player in Mali.
It can be seen also in Ethiopia. Of course, the shape is a little bit different, the sound even differs sometime..
The goal of this video is to present it and to play with it based on the music of a very famous singer, unfortunately dead who offers and contribute a lot to the amazigh music: Raiss Hadj Ahmed Amentag
I take also the Opportunity to thanks a man who realized this instrument for me. This man called Mr Brahim amentag is very famous and has a a very huge knowledge on how to realize and manufacture it (100 % manually)
I will not forget one of the maestro of Ribab in Morocco who played for most of the artist. This man is raiss lahcen Belmouden

BR
