From Japan comes Takanotsume also known as Hawk’s Claw, an amazing producer. One of the hottest of the Japanese chillies. Grown this for many years and never disappoints, always gets choc full of pods, grows easy and looks pretty cool, never tried one though so today Charlotte and I have a crack at the Takanotsume
The plants are fairly compact with clustering upright growing pods, an annuum type, don’t get very tall, ours is around 50cm tall but an amazing producer of pods 3-4 cm long that start off green and end up red once ripen, they don’t grow that big so if space limited, this would be a great edition to any balcony.
What’s it Like?
How Hot is It?
Crunchy and an initial Tangy flavour, with a slight salt flavour that stays for ages, loved it.
Nothing, nothing then whooska, hit the back of the throat and tongue, sort of a delayed heat, top palate started going, built a little and around mid heat, then it cruises along at a nice mid heat for about 5 or so minutes then slowly dissipates, not the usual sharp, stingy burn, love it.
What a top plant/pod. Grows easy, doesn’t get to big but massive yield, perfect for a balcony, go great, fresh or dried/powdered or even pickled. Nice mid heat burn with a tangy flavour, really recommend this one for any yard or if space challenged will always have some at hand.
