The celebration of National Caribbean American Heritage Month began as a grass-roots movement led by Caribbean American community leaders and advocates in the late 1990s. Since its adoption by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2005 and subsequent passage by the Senate in 2006, National Caribbean American Heritage Month has been held annually from June 1 to June 30.
