SSI has "countable" resource limits. If exceeded, an SSI recipient's benefits may be stopped. Its 2023 resource limits are $2000 for an individual and $3000 for an eligible couple. 2023 SSI Resources Limits should be $5000 for a single individual and $7500 for an eligible couple. However, SSI resource limits have not been adjusted for cost-of-living increases since 1989. Expect them to be $2000 for an individual and $3000 for an eligible couple in 2024.
That doesn't mean you cannot have more than $2000 in resources. There are resources which don't count. They are called "uncounted resources." As examples, your house and lot are not counted against the $2000 resource limit, nor does one automobile which is used by you or a member of your household. Social Security published 24 "uncounted resources" on their website. They are discussed in this video. You may find some surprising. Links below for your use and convenience.
