The Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) has halted the over 200 billion shillings procurement of electoral materials by Electoral Commission pending an inquiry into complaints surrounding the bidding process.
Benson Turamye, the PPDA Executive Director has told NTV that a team of investigators are going to look into the concerns raised in a petition from the Uganda Printing and Packaging Association accusing the Electoral Commission of sidelining local companies by awarding the contracts to print ballot papers to international companies.
According to Paul Bukenya, the Electoral Commission's Deputy Public Relations Officer, the local printing companies did not qualify because they lack the capacity to handle such a complex project.
