As a perianesthesia nurse practitioner at HSS, Emily Sirotkin, MSN, RN, AGNP-BC, sees patients preoperatively and postoperatively. Before surgery, Emily conducts a pain management screening to optimize and ensure patients have a smooth outcome. When she covers acute or chronic pain service, she makes sure that patients in the hospital have pain that is controlled and manageable.

Her philosophy is to have patients be a part of their own care so they feel empowered and in control. She listens to their concerns or requests and tries to tailor their care plan accordingly.

Emily’s favorite part of the job is helping patients through the whole surgical process – after seeing someone nervous preoperatively to being discharged and leaving the hospital with a smile on their face is really gratifying.
