In this video I fit a taperlock pulley to our Harrison 140 lathe to increase spindle speed from 750 to 1000RPM.
This was a factory option with the 3HP motor which you may remember we fitted last year.
New A68 belts were picked up the next day from our engineering supplier and fitted to the lathe , this has reduced the belt slap and probably will increase torque transmission.
I then investigate the common rattling issue which many Harrison lathes of this era suffer from.
The prognosis is that the copper clutch plate which rides on hardened 8mm pins has worn the holes to between 8.10 and 8.50mm.
After watching a number of videos, it seems some people have had success fitting three compression springs to the clutch plate which holds it tight when the clutch is engaged (spindle is off), which is when the rattle occurs.
Whilst I had the clutch apart I took the time to adjust the brake.
I will do an in-depth video on adjustment of the clutch, along with fitting of the new springs and new bearings.
