Turning our sights now to the United States... several states in the country′s northeast are bracing for a monster blizzard... a storm that the country′s main weather agency has warned will be "crippling and potentially historic".
A state of emergency has been declared in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts... as authorities urged residents to head home early... and avoid all non-essential travel.
New York′s mayor Bill de Blasio said all vehicles that are not emergency vehicles will be banned on the roads after 11pm on Monday... as thousands of planes were grounded in and out of the region′s airports.
Hurricane-speed winds and up to 90 centimeters of snow are forecast... with the storm to affect Philadelphia all the way up to the Canadian border.
A blizzard warning affects a region inhabited by 20 million people.
