STORYLINE:
Pakistani volunteers fanned out in boats on Wednesday across the country's inundated Sindh province to rescue those stranded in the flood-hit town of Mehar Tehsil.
This comes as the nation struggles with unprecedented flooding which has affected 3.3 million people and caused 1,343 deaths since mid-June.
Volunteers are part of a massive operation that was launched by Pakistan with help from the military last month after floods triggered by monsoon rains submerged one-third of Pakistan, destroying crops, damaging homes, toppling bridges and washing away hundreds of kilometres of roads across the country.
Despite being alerted by the government that floods were going to hit them, many residents did not take the warning seriously as they believed that it would not reach their cities, towns or villages.
It trapped people when floods hit their areas and Mehar Tehsil was not an exception.
Now volunteers with boats randomly go into inundated villages, looking for stranded flood victims.
Rescuers, troops and volunteers have evacuated 177,265 people since floods started inundating different parts of Pakistan, killing 1,343 people and injuring 12,720 others.
Floods have affected 3.3 million people and more than 600,000 people are living at relief camps set by Pakistan and aid agencies.
