The Mushroom Kingdom-- ruled by Princess Peach, besieged by Bowser, and protected by the plumber Mario-- is a relatively tame world as far as worlds go. But there are other worlds. One more sinister realm is the Smithy Dimension.

There resides a sentient weapon named Smithy. The last of his kind, Smithy lived upon the very remains and parts of failed creations like himself. Equipped with a powerful forging hammer and a living smelter, Smithy created a legion of living mechs like himself, each resembling the forms of weapons like axes, bows, and spears. Over time, Smithy became a sort of demi-god of war, and their world was nothing but metal and conflict. Any sign of the world and creator that came before...was gone.

Eventually the Smithy Gang's ambitions grew and a towering sword, known as Exor, was built to create portals to new worlds to conquer. As you may have guessed, their sights fell on the fungus world of the Mushroom Kingdom. You are Mario, whose normal adventure of Princess rescuing is interrupted by Exor falling from the sky and shattering the Star Road, scattering your friends and the power of the stars across the land.
