Hey guys, in this video, I give a full breakdown of 3 of the best credit cards for beginners this year. Not only that, but I also talk about an honorable mention card at the end of the video for those that stick around to the end. There are a lot of recent graduates and people brand new to credit cards looking for their very first credit card and this video was made to help you decide what credit card you should get first if you're brand new, even if you have no previous credit history.
In addition, the really nice thing about these cards is that you can check on their websites if you’re pre-approved for their cards where they only do a soft pull of your credit report, and it doesn’t affect your credit score. However, once you accept one of the offers, then they usually do a hard pull. But with these cards, you can just pick one, see if you’re pre-approved, and if not, you can try another one and it won’t hurt your score. Also, they all have no annual fee and are targeted at beginners which is nice.
The first card discussed is the Discover it Secured card. This card is the most highly recommended beginner card by almost every YouTuber and has been popular for many years. This card is a staple for most people starting with credit cards because they target people with no previous credit history. Unlike a normal credit card though, a secured card means that the credit limit for your card is determined by an initial deposit you put on the card. This card is very traditional, and more cards have come on the market that may be slightly more appealing these days.
The next card discussed is the Petal 2 card. This card is a pretty brand new card on the market that is targeted at beginners. For starters, this card is a normal credit card with a predetermined credit limit and everything, plus it’s a cool-looking card. But it comes with a lot of benefits and it’s really easy to use with a pretty nice-looking interface. They pride themselves as a company that looks at more than just your traditional FICO scores to determine creditworthiness, which makes this card accessible to most.
Now the next credit card may come as a surprise, but it is the X1 credit card. This credit card stands in a category of its own. It is heavily targeted at younger generations, especially millennials, but on top of that, they market themselves as being a company that leans a lot heavier on your income rather than your credit history. In addition, they claim to offer credit limits 5x higher than normal credit cards which is pretty great when you're just getting started.
Lastly, I talk about the Apple Card. This card overall is a really cool titanium metal card and it’s got a sleek design to it. The perks of it for beginners are the fact that it seamlessly integrates with your iPhone and the interface is super clean. It makes credit cards really simple and helps you to understand how a credit card works with a clean design in an Apple-like fashion. The one catch I that I have heard it does require some previous credit history, but you could always check if you're pre-approved.
