In 1927, Hermann Hesse published his most relevant book on the dark side: "Der Steppenwolf". The novel is about the complex inner musings of a middle-aged man named Harry Haller, who had to face his own position in modern civilized society at the beginning of the twentieth century, as well as his personal shadow and the shadow that represented the dark side of culture. The center of the novel is the inevitable final confrontation between man and "wolf".
