Gautam Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was a spiritual leader who lived in ancient India. He was born in 563 BCE in the city of Lumbini, which is now in Nepal. According to Buddhist tradition, he was born as a prince and raised in a life of luxury and privilege, shielded from the suffering and hardships of the world.
However, at the age of 29, Gautam Buddha left his royal life behind and set out on a quest to understand the nature of human suffering and find a way to overcome it. He spent several years traveling, meditating, and seeking the guidance of spiritual teachers, but was ultimately unsatisfied with their teachings.
Eventually, Gautam Buddha sat down under a tree in Bodh Gaya, India, and vowed not to rise until he had found enlightenment. After several days of deep meditation, he experienced a profound realization and became a Buddha, which means "awakened one" or "enlightened one".
For the remainder of his life, Gautam Buddha traveled and taught others about his insights into the nature of suffering and the path to liberation from it. His teachings formed the basis of Buddhism, a major world religion that emphasizes the importance of meditation, ethical conduct, and compassion for all living beings.
