Another band of forest in Kamo, named "Recreational Reserve" on google maps. This informal park looks like it previously has access from 79 Fairway Drive, but now is completely overgrown. I attempted to get in from this access point but it was too difficult (see the Extended Version of this track for this adventure).
On a different day I accessed the same block from Elgin Place, an unmarked entrance at the end of a shared driveway. There is a solid council bridge over this stream, leading into the bush. The name ‘Waiarohia’ names the stream that travels through here (and flows all the way into town, past Boys High and into the Hatea River).
There is no formal track at this entrance, but evidence that people do come in here and take out the weeds. I managed to make it to the top of the ridge without too much trouble, however it is very steep, and unmarked, so easy to get lost if you are not careful.
