Released from 1997 all the way through 2004, World Championship decks were eventually discontinued in favor of the highly popular Fat Packs. But I want to take a detailed look at this product and see what it was all about.
First and foremost these decks are a great celebration of their respective champions. Not only is each card gold bordered, but each and every card is stamped in gold and silver with the autographs of the pro who brought that deck all the way to the finals of the championships.
I’ve never been an avid follower of the pro scene, but I do admire the symbolic accolades of these decks. The signature is a lovely touch, one that gets even a casual like me interested in the players who piloted these decks to victory.
Each competitor's release included their 60-card deck and 15-card sideboard, 12 blank proxy cards, and cards with a printed deck list, a biography of the player, and an overview of the four decks release for their respective year.
But the thing I love most about these world championship decks is the fact that they are meant to be played. What a thrill to be able to sit down and play a champion’s deck against the decks of other champions from that years’ top 8 of worlds!
