[ Plot ]
In 2014, Abstergo releases Helix, a software that allows the general public to access genetic memories as a gaming device. The player, while reliving memories of Jacques de Molay, is contacted by an Assassin agent, Bishop, who invites them to join the Assassin Brotherhood. Bishop informs the player about Abstergo's plan to use a Sage with precursor DNA to compile a precursor genome and directs them to locate another Sage.
The player relives the memories of Arno Dorian, an orphaned French-Austrian nobleman whose adoptive father, François de la Serre, is murdered. Arno is framed for the murder and imprisoned in the Bastille, where he befriends Pierre Bellec, who introduces him to the Assassin Brotherhood. After escaping, Arno joins the Brotherhood to avenge de la Serre's death.
During his investigation, Arno discovers that François-Thomas Germain, a silversmith, is behind the murder. Germain is a radical Templar who orchestrates a coup within the Order. Arno teams up with his childhood friend and love interest, Élise, a Templar, to stop Germain. Despite their efforts, Élise is killed during the final confrontation with Germain, who is revealed to be a Sage.
Arno ultimately kills Germain and recovers his skeleton to prevent Abstergo from using it. The game concludes with Arno vowing to protect Paris and honor Élise's memory. Bishop expresses relief that Abstergo will not find Germain's remains.
