In Scarborough, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces that construction has begun on the subway extension for the community. The $5.5-billion project is the largest subway expansion in Canadian history, and is expected to be completed by 2030. He is joined by provincial ministers Caroline Mulroney (transportation), Kinga Surma (infrastructure), Stan Cho (associate minister of transportation), as well as Raymond Cho (MPP for Scarborough North), John Tory (the mayor of Toronto), and Phil Verster (president and CEO of Metrolinx). The premier is asked about the possibility of moving Ontario to step two of its reopening plan ahead of schedule, given increased vaccination rates. The province is currently scheduled to begin step two on July 2.
