We visit the Stony Brook University classroom of professor Nancy Tomes who teaches about the 1918 influenza pandemic and U.S. public information efforts to stop its spread. She describes methods also used a century ago such as canceling public gatherings, social distancing, and propaganda about good hygiene, and compares the symptoms, economic impact, and national response between 1918 and today. The class was held on March 10 of this year during the early stages of the U.S coronavirus outbreak.
