Is the Black Canyon of the Gunnison worth seeing? Yes! Come along with me as we drive the South Rim Road and visit stunning overlooks to the Gunnison River. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is a very accessible park with a fully paved road on the South Rim. Start at the South Rim Visitor station for the first jaw dropping view of granite cliffs. Most of the overlooks require just a couple hundred feet of walking to get to amazing deep canyon and river vistas. The park was named for its cliffs that are shrouded in shadows, making the dark granite walls seem like they're black.
Interested in visiting Black Canyon of the Gunnison? You're invited to ride along with me, then check the conditions - the park is open seasonally.
Being a plant based traveler, of course, I love to check out the regional foods and I found that Colorado is known for a variety of high quality dry beans. Perfect for travel! In fact, we dined on black bean salad while we visited.
