Mohamed A. El-Erian, Ph.D., is CEO and co-CIO of PIMCO, a global investment management firm that manages more than $1.3 trillion of assets. A widely recognized thought leader, he is credited as being a co-creator of the post-global financial crisis concept "The New Normal," and was a foreseer of the impact of many political and natural events on the world economy. Mohamed was educated at Cambridge University and Oxford University. He spent 15 years at the International Monetary Fund before moving to the private sector where he served as managing director at Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup in London before first joining PIMCO in 1999. In 2006-07, Mohamed was President and CEO of Harvard Management Company (HMC), the entity managing Harvard's endowment and other related assets, and has been a faculty member of the Harvard Business School.
