The climate crisis is one of the largest health crises of our time. Health systems are responding to the impacts of the climate crisis but are also responsible for 5% of global emissions.

The Sustainable Markets Initiative Health Systems Task Force is a group of global health leaders united around the common goal of accelerating the transition to net zero, patient-centric health systems, recognising the climate’s impact on health and the impact of the health sector on the climate.

Through the Health Systems Task Force, championed by our CEO Pascal Soriot, we’re taking collective action at scale. Together with partners, we can achieve more than the sum of our parts.

The Sustainable Markets Initiative Health Systems Task Force is a public-private partnership launched at COP26, comprising of healthcare companies (AstraZeneca, GSK, Novo Nordisk, Merck Group, Roche, Samsung Biologics, Sanofi) the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and key public sector partners (NHS England, Sustainable Healthcare Coalition and University of Pavia). Ahead of COP28, new Task Force members Bupa, Novartis and Reckitt joined the collaboration.
