Route 66 — America’s Mother Road — runs for 2,400 miles from the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago, Illinois, right across the US to the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica, California. It opened in 1926 and became the first corridor across the continent, connecting isolated communities by bringing visitors, custom, trade and prosperity — making the Great American Highway a thing of legend.
