If I knew how crazy this would be, I might not have started!
I want to thank Perry Stanley for contributing immensely to this. Incredibly, he not only performed the Pianet part on a vintage Hohner Pianet C, but he contributed what I believe is the only actual tampura performance on a cover of "Getting Better" I've ever seen. He even added those congas, which are carbon copies of the actual Beatles congas!
My own contributions literally took months. I was shocked to discover two immensely complex basslines. After some digging on a few Beatles isolated track channels, I was able to find separations of each bassline, which I memorized. Incredible melodic playing by Paul!
I used up all of my brainpower memorizing the basslines, because I literally wrote out the guitar lines to remember all the quirks and oddness. We have two lead guitars: one playing harmonics and stray open notes, the other playing those pesky octaves. John's rhythm guitar is INCREDIBLE, one of the underrated rhythm guitar performances.
And yes, the drum part absolutely includes a floor tom doubling the bass drum. After listening to the isolated drums, it was clear that there was much more power and oomph to the bass drum than it could produce with just a bass drum alone. There are photos of Paul in the same time period
playing the floor tom along with a Ringo performance, which clicked for me. I'm 99% sure that's how they achieved that awesome drum sound.
I added two pianet parts to supplement Perry, although I believe the actual performance by the Beatles might've just had two players on one Pianet. I added a third part only for the opening chord, which is so unique I had to replicate it my own way.
God, I love this song. I could go on all day.
Let me know what you think! Also, check out the new drumhead!
