IN order for us to endure until the coming of the Lord, we need to remember that Jesus is the beginning,
middle and end of history. We are so inclined to process everything that happens in life through the lens of self. How does this affect me? What does this mean for me? My future?
But we have to force ourselves to remember that the right question is “How is God using this to bring all
things under the feet Jesus?” When we think this way, with an eternal perspective and with the Lord’s will in mind, we can then ask “How do I obey the Lord’s purposes in this?”
It is so important for us to keep this in our short term memory. All of our plans, goals and aspirations need to be subject to the fact that Jesus is the central focus of history. If we fail to do this, then we will lose ourselves down a trail of meaningless pursuits that offer earthly pleasure but no eternal value. The Lord has reserved us for both.
I want to look at the eternal Christ today. We’re going to look at Jesus as He is revealed to us in Revelation chapter one. This isn’t a study on the book of Revelation, but a study on the Lord Jesus Christ as we see Him in chapter one.
We’ll look into the mechanics of chapter one a little bit, only to understand the context and setting of John’s vision of the Lord. But we don’t want to get lost in the words, in the theological study, we want to see Jesus and remember that this is Who we worship and obey.
