Sotteok is a popular Korean street food that consists of mini sausage and mini elongated/cylinder shaped rice cakes combined and alternated in a skewer. “So” is short for “sausage” or “sosiji” (소시지) in Korean and “tteok” (떡) is rice cake.
The flavor profile of this popular dish is meaty, spicy, and slightly sweet. Gochujang is typically used but some also will use ketchup and mustard.
A Korean comedian named Young Ja Lee invented this popular dish after featuring it on television. It was later introduced to South Korea and has become a popular street snack since.
