I’m explaining how I prepare to paint a watercolor like John Singer Sargent. I’m focusing on the energy, composition, sequence of his strokes, and his layering. I have another video out explaining his watercolors, drawings, and the sequence he uses. You may be interested in that, too. [ Ссылка ]
The color is important, but due to the variations in the photography of the original paintings, and the lighting of the photograph, even the printing of the book, I’m not as concerned about the color exactly. I want to share how I believe that he "sees" the scene and how she thinks he wants to present his interpretation -- his "impression" -- of the scene. I use that term, "impression" with care, because Sargent worked among the impressionists and was intimately aware of how they interpreted the world around them and re-created it in their artwork in an impressionist style.
In addition to Sargent, I mention various techniques and resources to help you understand the world of Joh singer Sargent and his watercolors.
Follow-up videos will show me creating paintings in the style of John Singer Sargent. More discussions of various American artists and their careers will be shown, too.

Arches Cold Press Watercolor Pad, 10"X14" [ Ссылка ]
I have found this Arches pad gives you the great Arches paper at a reasonable price. I still use Arches blocks and Arches full sheets, but this is a good alternative. You can tear a page out and tape it to your Gatorboard, or just use it loose.
The lightweight board, called Gatorboard, that I’m using is 18”x24”. The boards are available in various sizes. [ Ссылка ]

Economy White Artists Tape 1In X 60Yds by Art Alternatives
I get the 1” tape because it’s easier to tear when I using it for masking. And, you can write on in more easily since it is wider. As I mentioned, I write notes to myself on the tape, so I don’t “get lost” in a complicated painting. [ Ссылка ]
