1986: Gloria's (Putrid) Palace Sells for $600K
WTVJ-4's Jane Wells reports on a somewhat sordid chapter in the history of Gloria's Palace. Seems the builder-owners of the somewhat mosque-like, kind of Taj Mahal-esque folly known to anyone who drove the 826 southbound near Dadeland vanished like a genie vacating a magic lamp, leaving a bank holding the bag.
The bank's solution: Auction the place off, buy it at the auction, scrub it thoroughly and re-sell it at a tidy profit.
How well this scheme worked isn't clear, although the house was in time sold and still stands today.
Wells' story includes a rare glimpse inside the private home inside and out, from the elaborate pool to the bedroom, still equipped with a circular bed.
