As you are all aware, newborns are vulnerable for lot of infections because their immunity is still building up and they are themselves very tiny and they need to be take care of very well. The first and foremost important thing is temperature. Thermoregulation is very important. Because newborn baby has been in the mother’s womb for 9 months and when it comes out of the mother’s womb, it might not be able to maintain the temperature. They are not able to adjust to the external temperature so it has to be kept warm all the time. So when we say warm we have to look at the surrounding temperature. If it is too hot, don’t overwrap your baby because it might lead to lot of sweating and weight loss and don’t do under wrapping in a cold environment. So it is recommended at night, 2 layers in a weather like Bangalore, in the day time a decent 1 layer is also enough. Number 2 , the feeding part of it, a newborn baby is exclusively breast fed first 4 to 6 months of life unless and until there are any issues with the mother, breast milk, with insufficient milk, any other health issues with the mother, otherwise breast milk is the nutrition for the baby. Number 3 , burping of the baby after feed so that the gases come out and the baby feels better, helps in digestion just 10 to 15 minutes, pat the baby on the shoulder. Number 4, the baby’s regular checkups, the baby’s regular checkups. Basically a newborn baby requires biweekly or monthly checkups, as you go for the vaccination, that will be taken care and basically babies growth and development will be monitored in this and number 5, baby’s urine and output contorting. Baby usually passes anywhere between 6 to 15 times urine in a day and their stool pattern can be as regular as a no stools for 7 days tip 7 to 10 stools per day. That is normal. No need to get panicked so make sure baby is hydrated well. That is baby is passing 6 to 10 times urine in a day and the baby’s activity is to be monitored the baby when awake needs to be moving his or her hands and legs. When the baby is sleepy and drowsy, when you wake the baby up, baby should not be very drowsy, should be easily wakened up. Why is that important is when the baby is drowsy, baby is comatose and not able to be wakened up , there might be sugar fluctuations in the baby’s body.
