Lolab Valley, also known as Wadi-e-Lolab, is located in Kupwara district in Northern Kashmir. Kalaroos Caves are also located in Lolab Valley.
Lolab Valley is 5 km wide and 26 km long located between Kashmir Valley and Neelum Valley in Pakistan. The Lahwal River traverses through the valley. Lolab is dotted with a number of beautiful villages. We could see vast expanses of green paddy fields and pastures. The valley is known as the “Fruit Bowl of Jammu and Kashmir”. Fruits like apple, cherry, peach, apricot and walnuts are grown here in Lolab.
Pine and fir forests form a part of the surrounding mountains. There are many nameless waterfalls and springs all around the valley. And just at the horizon the Pir Panjal ranges can be seen. Lolab is indeed the Land of Love and Beauty!
Kalaroos Caves
The Kalaroos caves have many myths associated with them. The caves are located at one end in Kalaroos village over a hill top. You have to hike up the hill for about a kilometer to reach the caves.
Satbaran
At the first look, you will see a huge cave like structure stood having seven arched niches carved into the stone. This is called Satbaran. The name comes from the local word “Sat Barr” meaning 7 doors. Legend says that these doors are the entrance to the caves that lead all the way to Russia. Infact, the name Kalaroos comes from the word “Qil-e-Rous” that literally translates to Russian fort. And they named the village after it as well.
How to reach Lolab Valley?

Where to stay?
There are J&K Tourism department tourist bungalows at Chandigam and Khumriyaal villages in Lolab Valley. But those were closed when we visited. There were no other places to stay there, though a few locals invited us to stay at their house.
You can also stay at Kupwara. There are a few hotels with basic facilities at the market area.
