You mentioned that you've been trying to have baby #2 for over a year now and just because of that fact, it would be best for you to talk with your doctor. Most couples are pregnant within about six months of trying and after a year, 85% of couples are pregnant. After that, it's worth looking into it because there may be an issue with either the woman's reproductive tract or the male's reproductive tract and a fertility specialist can ask you more specific questions about your lifestyle, perform an exam, and see what would be best in order to help increase your chances of conceiving a baby. Now there are some basics to understand when it comes to fertility. You're most fertile on six days of the month: five days leading up to ovulation and on the day of ovulation. Ovulation typically happens anywhere from 12-16 days before your next period's going to start. So the key is to time intercourse with ovulation. If you haven't already been doing that, try doing that. Have intercourse every day or every other day starting from the time your period ends. Do this for about 1-2 weeks and that should time intercourse with ovulation. But it would still be best to talk with a doctor because it's been a year. Now, you mentioned that you had some spotting a few days after your period started and you're wondering if this could mean something. I hope with all my heart that you are pregnant but that spotting in and of itself isn't necessarily a sign of pregnancy. Wait until your next period is supposed to begin and if it doesn't ever start, then take a home pregnancy test. If it's positive, congratulations! If it's negative, again, like I mentioned earlier, it would be best to talk with your doctor. Good luck with everything and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at facebook.com/intermountainmoms and recommend us to your friends and family, too.
