Digital photography has allowed image stabilization on the sensor rather than the optical in-lens systems that first existed in the film era. Which is better? This is a tough call but now we have both systems as well as combined systems used by Panasonic and Olympus in some of their camera/lens combinations. Sony and Pentax have been using systems in DSLRs for years and now Sony has included it in the a7 mirrorless cameras.
