This is an homemade model of a bacteria flagella.
I built this to be used as an educational exhibit of God's intelligent design in creation. I would like to donate this to any person or organization that will use this to bring glory to the God of all creation. markbowlings@gmail.com
The most common mechanism used by bacteria to swim through liquid media is the flagellum
The flagellum is a corkscrew-shaped, hair-like appendage attached to the cell surface acting like a propeller, allowing the bacterium to swim.
Just like an outboard motor, the flagellum has a rotating element (rotor) and a stationary element (stator) embedded in the cell wall and membrane. These elements are connected to the flexible filament by a hook.
It is a highly complex molecular machine. Protruding from many bacteria are long spiral propellers attached to motors that drive their rotation
The bacterial flagellum is a complex multicomponent structure which serves as the propulsive organelle for many species of bacteria. Rotation of the helical flagellar filament, driven by a proton-powered motor embedded in the cell wall, enables the flagellum to function as a screw propelle.
Here are two links that give a good explanation of the Bacteria Flagella
