Every day, 95 children in the Philippines die from malnutrition. Twenty-seven out of 1,000 Filipino children do not get past their fifth birthday. A third of Filipino children are stunted, or short for their age. Stunting after 2 years of age can be permanent, irreversible and even fatal.
Apart from high rates of stunting and neonatal deaths, low routine immunization coverage and lack of access to clean water and sanitation facilities also threaten children’s survival and development in the Philippines.
Synopsis: Our documentary features a mother of 6 children - Armelyn Fiebra. Raising her children has become even more challenging in the pandemic, leading her to cope in alarming ways. The children, in turn, barely having the support from their mother at times, resort to fending for themselves. At present, some have skipped school to face their primary priority: surviving. In a country with low funds for alleviating matters of malnutrition, how will they keep going?
This advocacy documentary aims to highlight that malnutrition is a core problem in our society and many Filipinos suffer from it.
